Baby Boy Nursery Reveal- Mountain Adventure Theme

Welcome to our baby boy nursery tour!

I’m excited to share one of my favorite little spaces in our home. We just recently changed our guest room into a nursery and we love the way it turned out. It was fun brainstorming ideas and scouring Pinterest for some major inspiration. We are so grateful for our littles who fill our lives with such sweet moments, challenges, and most of all JOY.  If you follow me over on Instagram, you’ll see that his room is obviously a little out of my feminine and contemporary comfort zone. I am typically drawn towards neutrals, gold, mint and blush, but it was fun changing pace and creating a fun & functional space for our little man. I’m also sharing my top 5 tips to guide you when creating a design for a nursery (or any room for that matter)!! Hope you enjoy a tour of our baby boy nursery with a mountain & adventure theme. (I’ll link sources below!)

1. Pick a color scheme & theme

I decided to go with an aztec mountain theme including arrows, foxes, bears, a rocking horse and a teepee. The walls are grey, so we went with mint & navy with splashes of green and pops of orange to add color to the room. Remember when designing your space that lighter colors on the wall tend to open up the space and make it look bigger!

2. Add a focal point to the room

Think about where you want the eyes to go when walking in & draw attention to that space with art or wall decor. For the focal point in this room, I ordered three white frames to put above the crib and filled them with scrapbook paper from Michael’s to fit the theme of the room. I got the 16×20 frame and matted for an 11×14 photo.  I love the way the three frames turned out as the focal point above his crib. This crib is actually an heirloom that Tylers dad made! Tyler slept in this exact crib when he was a baby. I was excited to use it for both babies and I am amazed that it is in such great shape, considering it’s pretty ancient. πŸ˜‰

We chose this adorable mountain theme bedding sheets and teething rail for the crib and picked out these navy and white blackout curtains to go with it. Definitely love the blackout curtains and feel like maybe we should get blackout curtains for our master bed room because they really do darken the room so much!

3. Make the most out of your space

We knew we wanted a changing table/dresser in his nursery but were having trouble making it fit in the room. Every time we walked into his room it felt so tight because of the furniture. We decided to take the doors off his closet to create more space and put the changing table inside the closet like a little nook. It was amazing how it opened up the space and made the room look and feel much bigger. It also gave us a huge incentive to clean out his closet! πŸ˜‰

We painted our old chest of drawers white and took off the crystal knobs that we had previously and added these more sleek & modern black draw pulls. It’s amazing how it instantly changed the overall look & feel of the dresser. We added a chalk board sign with his birth stats and filled the drawers with the necessities like diapers, wipes, swaddles and clothes.

On the changing table we found this wipeable & cute changing pad cover that I would highly recommend! It’s so easy to clean and wipe down quickly. To keep the stink out of the room, we put a diaper pail right next to the changing table.

*Pro tip- No nursery is complete without a good ole’ sound machine. When they are little it is said that the hushing sound is reminiscent of the sounds of the womb. But I say, get one for the baby… and yourself! It’s similar to the sound of a box fan & I like it because it helps drown out any sounds coming from the rest of the house (ie when the husband wakes at 5am to get ready for his morning workout!). I sleep so much better with one now!

4. Make the space functional and fun

I loved the idea of having a teepee/tent to make a cozy little reading nook for him. You can see how I used the same teepee in Audrey’s pink and gold nursery. To fit the theme of the room I found the most adorable “little man cave” sign and this Pom Pom garland in the mint, navy, & grey colors.

I made the teepee a little more cozy by putting in a white shag rug, corduroy fox stuffed animal and a blue and white striped pillow from Ikea. I can’t wait for him to get a little older to use it as a reading nook & play hide and seek with sister. I knew I wanted some shelving for some of John Williams books, so Tyler went to Lowe’s and just made them exactly how I pictured them! These were the ones that inspired us to make them and it was super simple!

Also, this Pom Pom basket is the cutest thing and I found it in the exact colors of the room! It’s the perfect spot to put his blankets, burp cloths and sleep sacks.

5. Create a late night cozy spot! πŸ™‚

We put the most important piece of furniture (the Laz-boy recliner) rocking chair in the corner. Although, you’ll notice in these pictures it not in there because these pictures were taken when JW was around 3 months. At that time, we actually had the comfy chair in our room since he was nursing so often at night. We’ve since transferred him out of his bassinet in our room into his crib. It’s taken me this long to finally put together this blog post! I’ve spent alot of time in this chair and sit here almost everytime I nurse the baby at home. I did an entire blog post on my breastfeeding journey and things I’ve learned along the way if you are interested you can read that here.

‘ *PRO TIP- One of my best tips for new mamas is to skip the hard back gliders and just go straight for the rockers/recliners. I love the one we chose because it is so comfortable, modern, it RECLINES and can be used later when we no longer need a nursery.

To help with nursing I use a boppy pillow and covered it with this grey and white arrow minky nursing pillow cover that is super soft and zips right off for washing.

Here’s an alternate view that I did while arranging the room. I put the rocking chair by the crib just to show a different look with a pop of orange and the teepee in the corner.
