How I decided to become a Group Fitness Instructor

I have a fun little update for you guys! I am excited to announce that I will be teaching group exercise classes at a local gym here (FBC Life Center). This will be a great part time job while finishing up my last semester of school at the Kanakuk Institute. You may be curious how this came about- and I am happy to share! It started this summer working out with my mother-in-law in Nebraska. I went to a Zumba class with her and absolutely LOVED it. Growing up as a dancer, I have really come to miss the art and have not really found an outlet to do so here. I also love to teach & inspire others to reach their goals. Dancing with these ladies at the class was so much fun and not to mention we also burned a ton of calories! I loved the fun and encouraging environment and the community it created. I also love being able to see the results from working out consistently. Exercising with friends can also help to keep you accountable to staying healthy, active & fit! Plus, its always more fun to work out with a buddy! The entire experience really sparked my interest into getting certified to teach group fitness.

I looked into it, did some research on different certifications and decided to get my AFAA Primary Group Exercise certification that would enable me to create my own classes as well as get a sub-certification to teach a specific branded format. I studied my materials, went to the workshop, passed the exam and the demonstration and got my certification!

Next step, I got my CPR/ First AID cert and then decided what sub-certification I wanted to get to be able to teach a specific format. I originally thought I would get Zumba certified, but looking at our community where we live, there were already a ton of Zumba instructors, and relatively NO options for an high intensity, low impact, strength and flexibility training group exercise class. I searched for the right one that I knew people would love- and PiYo seemed to fit the bill perfectly! I went to the training, passed the certification and I’m so excited to tell you that I am now a certified PiYo instructor and will be teaching classes starting in January!!!

PiYo® is a dynamic fusion of the best sports training, flexibility training and strength with a Pilates and yoga influence. It will even improve your balance and core power. We crank up the music, the speed, and the fun to give you a pulse pounding, intense, low-impact workout that will burn crazy calories and sculpt every inch of your body for a long, lean, beautiful physique.

There really is no other class like it! No weights. No jumps. No bulk. Just hardcore results! I’m so excited to be teaching classes starting in January! Come and work out with me. I promise you will find your soul mate workout with PiYo!
