My Current Morning & Nighttime Skin Care Routine + Best Tips for Clearer Skin

It’s seems like I have always been on the search for an easy (and quick) skin care routine with minimal steps that actually works. I wanted one that didn’t dry out my skin or make it feel “tight” like some others I have tried. I have been on the hunt for a skin care routine that helped made my skin feel and look brighter, more hydrated, minimize the appearance of scars/sun damage and appear more healthy. So today, I’m sharing with you what is working for me in my current morning and nighttime skin care routine and a few tips for clearer skin.

I’ve since found some great quality skin care that takes hardly any effort and time. As a mom of a toddler and a newborn, I’m all about that nowadays!  I don’t have time for a 10 step process. I just want to be able to get it done quickly and enjoy the results.

I know everyone has different skin and problem issues, so not everyone needs the same regimen, but I wanted to share what is working wonders for me in hopes that it will help you too! I used to have really oily skin and some acne & discoloration, and these products + a few easy tips I will share with you have helped to clear up my skin.

# 1 Tip:  DRINK MORE WATER! We all know we need to keep hydrated and drink a lot more water than we do, but are we taking small steps to do that throughout the day? My suggestion is to fill up a big glass of water to keep by your bed at night, drink some before bed but also finish it in the morning and fill it up first thing. With each meal, make it a point to have a glass of water before any other type of drink like coffee or soda. That guarantees you’ll have at least 5 glasses of water if you implement these easy changes! If you work out, bring a water bottle with you. I’ve found that I will drink alot more water if I keep a water bottle I like with me througout the day.  This one tracks the amount of water you are drinking and keeps you on track to drink a lot more if you are serious about your water intake!

#2 Tip: GET MORE SLEEP! I need to take my own advice, but its kind of hard to get as much sleep as I would like in this season of life. We are all probably a bit sleep deprived.  One easy (well, kind of) tip I have for you is to put your phone away at night. Literally, plug it in on the opposite side of the room, NOT by your bed side. Read a book or listen to a podcast & drift off to sleep. You’ll be amazed at how much easier you’ll fall asleep and not waste time just scrolling through social media. You’ll also be putting that time to good use and no telling how many more books you’ll be able to read! Fill your brain with things that are worthwhile!

#3 GIRL WASH YOUR FACE! And no, this isn’t just a Rachel Hollis book title! This is an easy step, but often overlooked. Be sure to go to sleep with a clean fresh face! You’d be surprised to see how much this one little step will help. On the flip side, don’t over wash your face as it can strip you of the natural good oils your skin produces. If my face feels clean from the night before, I often just skip cleanser in the morning and go straight to applying my moisturizer.

Taking care of your skin is so important and it will also help your makeup apply smoothly and last longer! Always prep your skin and let it absorb into your skin (about 2-3 mins tops) before applying your makeup. I just posted my current makeup routine here if you’d like to see a walk-through of what I use everyday! Now, let me take you step by step into what I do to take care of my skin on a day-to-day basis.

Daytime Routine

Step 1: Cleanse

I use this facial cleanser that removes makeup & impurities and gives my skin that nice clean feeling. This cleanser is gentle & is packed with probiotics and the product itself lasts FOREVER because there is so much in one tube. *Like I mentioned before, if my skin is clean already from the night before I will just use my moisturizer and skip washing my face if it’s already clean. My skin can get too dry and tight feeling if I wash it too often and over washing actually tells your skin to produce more oil. Do what feels good for your skin.

Step 2: Moisturize

The next step is the BEST step of the regimen. I am obsessed with this day and night moisturizer. It’s one of the best moisturizers I have tried because it doesn’t just sit on top of the skin. I feel like my skin literally drinks it up, it’s so good! I love how soft and calming it is on my skin and makes it look more hydrated, smooth and bright. Make sure it has time to settle into the skin before applying makeup.

Step 3: Revitalizing Eye Cream

For eye cream, I am currently using this cream for protection and anti-aging.  If you have a specific eye cream you swear by, please let me know about it! I love testing out new products to find the best one for my skin. Since I am nearing the big 3.0. soon, I will be needing some anti aging magic for the eye area!

Nighttime Routine

I use the same cleanser then put on 2-3 drops of rose hip oil  My skin has a few red/ dark spots from bouts of acne or sun damage. I will put 2-3 drops of organic rose hip oil on my fingertips and gently rub into the places that need extra moisture and healing right before I put on my moisturizer. This has really helped to reduce the appearance of scars and heal my skin from damage. I let the oil & the moisturizer soak into my skin at night while I sleep to get the full benefits. If we are in the dead of winter and my skin is feeling extra dry, I will spritz this rosewater facial spray to set my makeup  or right after I get out of the shower. It instantly soothes and gives my skin a quick boost.

1-2 Times a Week

If I notice my skin is getting dry and flaky or has build up or residue left on it, I will use this exfoliating sugar scrub to buff off & remove dead skin.

Even though this next product isn’t in my every day routine, I still wanted to mention it as its one of my favorite serums I’ve ever used.  If I am feeling like my skin needs some major help & rejuvenation, I found this night repair serum to leave on over night. I feel like it does what it says- it repairs my skin, makes it feel brand new & intensely hydrated. I apply this to clean skin right before my moisturizer at night time 1-2 times a week. It’s a little more of an investment, but totally worth it to me! A little goes a long way and it has lasted me a long time.

That’s it! Literally takes 5 minutes or less! I am so happy I have found a skin care routine that is fast but effective! Also, Tula (the facewash, day & night cream, eye cream brand I mentioned) was so awesome to give my readers a discount code!
