20 Non-Traditional & Themed Easter Basket Ideas

Top 20 Creative + Themed Easter Basket Ideas & Fillers

I love getting festive for holidays and creating memories with my family during Easter. It’s such a special time to remember Jesus’ sacrifice for us & that He rose again and conquered sin & death! Easter is such a special and hopeful time we can gather and celebrate Christ as our risen Savior. Beyond that, it’s also a fun time to create traditions with your family. One of my favorite Easter traditions is doing an egg hunt with family and friends! My mother in-law inspired me with how creative she is in creating non-traditional gift ideas and finding unique ways to fill our children’s Easter baskets. Most of these thoughts and ideas are inspired from her past Christmas and easter gifts. Here are some great ideas for non-traditional (and mostly non-candy) Easter baskets this year.

I tried to think of things that will get your kids active and playing outside and things they’ll use for months to come!

The Best Non-Traditional Themed Easter Basket Ideas

Beach Bum Basket:

This is the basket that sparked the ideas for the other creative non-candy baskets. My mother in law did a great job with thinking about what we would need for the season ahead. She filled the kids baskets with new swimsuits (love this and this for little girls, and ofcourse these adorable mommy and me ones I found), sun hats, sunglasses, puddle jumper floaties, flip flops and a towel.

The Golden Eggs:

The ultimate finale on the hunt. These giant eggs are filled with adorable handmade stuffed animals made in Peru. These were sent to us from Red & Olive Co which is a give-back, fair trade & women owned company.

I absolutely love their mission & my kids LOVE their new stuffed animals. They were so happy to find out what furry friend was inside. I love that they offer lots of open ended play & are soft to sleep with at night. They are the perfect size for their little hands. πŸ₯° They also have lots of other animals & options with matching accessories. Use code Dorothy15 for 15% off your order. April Showers Basket:

This is a perfect basket to fill with new rain gear like rain boots (like these adorable ones we have-lots of options for boys and girls) a rain jacket, umbrella and a fun kite for outside play.

Picnic Time Basket:

Fill a cute picnic basket like this one with a picnic blanket, their favorite snacks or pretend food, cups and utensils. Fun options to put in there are lawn games like ring toss, horse shoes or a parachute for hours of fun!

Little Gardener Basket:

Grab a cute little watering can. Fill it with gloves, a shovel, seed packets, magnifying glass, plastic bugs or get an outdoor adventure set like this one.

Sand Pail Basket:

Grab a beach pail, fill it with sand toys, shovels, a beach ball, and a water gun! You could even get a kinetic sand set to go with it, my little girl plays with this one and it keeps her entertained for a long time.

Outdoor Adventure Basket:

Grab some bubbles, chalk, jump rope, hoola hoops, balls, frisbees, etc. These can be found at your local grocery store at this time of year. They definitely won’t be at a loss for things to do outside! This is one of those baskets your kids will remember for a long time to come.

Books are Fun Basket:

Get an actual back pack (that you know your kid will use in the future) or basket and fill it with new books, stickers, markers and a game like this one (my daughter loves this). You could even center it around a theme and get a stuffed character that goes with it! Stick a few fun filled eggs in there just for good measure!

Let’s Play Pretend Basket:

Pick your child’s favorite Disney Princess, Superhero or role-play character & get items that pertain to that character. Think capes, crowns, hats and dresses. These play tents would be really fun too! They also have these magnetic dress up sets that really spark creativity and imaginative thinking. Stick them in the basket and voila!

Glam Girl Basket:

This can be for younger or older girls. Fill the basket with stick on or real earrings & nails, pretend or real make up items, a cute tin with chapstick, a cute little pocket mirror, perfume, and a little zip-up makeup bag or old school caboodle. I loved these when I was little.

Bath Time Fun Basket:

Fill the basket with fun bath bombs, bath crayons, bubble bath, a boat toy, new rubber duckies/animals or growing washcloths, or a new fun bath robe and soap.

Little Artist Basket:

This one is perfect for your little creative ones. Fill the basket with crayons, markers, paint, colored pencils and play dough. You could even get these little Melissa and Doug to-go coloring pads or this sculpted magic clay.

Favorite Character Basket:

Pick a character that your little one is really loving and center a basket around that theme. For example, you could get a Paw Patrol basket & put little finger puppets or figurines from the show in each egg. You can always check the party favor aisle for these little items. It’s also a good idea to think about items they might need like new pajamas, lunch box, or flip flops with that character on it.

Pull Along Wagon Basket:

Kids love riding in wagons and/or putting toys in them and pulling them around the yard. Fill the wagon with roller blades or skates, hoola hoops, pogo stick or summer themed items to play with like yard games, inflatable pool or balls.

Little Baker Basket:

Use a basket or even a mixing bowl & fill it with baking utensils, decorative cupcake liners, sprinkles, cake mix, and a festive apron for cooking up a sweet treat. Perfect for the little ones who like to help in the kitchen or to add to their play kitchen.

Tiny Dancer/ Karate Kid Basket:

This would be great for the little ones who may be starting a new class. Let’s say they are going to be starting a new dance or karate class or have grown out of their current uniforms or shoes. Fill a dance bag, duffle bag or basket with the needed items! Example, for a dance bag, I’d fill it with a tutu, ballet or tap shoes, leotard, tights and a portable speaker that will play some tunes.

Indoor Play:

Fill the basket with puzzles, tea party set, magnetic tiles, leggos, or age appropriate board games! My toddler loves these building blocks as well. Great way to encourage independent or group play. Tap here to see our favorite toddler toys for open ended play.

Construction Zone Basket:

Use a toy dump truck or tool kit and fill it with little pull-back construction trucks (Audrey loves these), magic tracks, or a play tool set like this one. I also found these adorable plates on Amazon that are construction themed that would be fun to include!
