5 Ways to Look Well Rested (When You’re Really Not)

“You look really tired…” the dreaded statement every mom is likely to hear at some point in their mama career. Whether its from getting up for the 3rd time to tend to your baby, working late into the night or maybe just staying up too late binging Netflix, it’s no wonder we are running on fumes and can tend to look tired the next day. I think I could count on one hand the times I have slept in since the day my first child was born. While I’m not convinced our bodies will ever get used to interrupted sleep, I’d like to think there are a few things we can do to at least look alive. So here are my top 5 easy ways to look well rested, even when your really not!

How to look younger and well rested eye cream

5 Ways to Look Well Rested (When You’re Really Not)

Did you know that the woman’s eye area ages 36% faster than the rest of her body? Our eyes play a huge factor in how tired or awake we look in the morning. Lack of sleep, poor circulation, or just plain dryness can cause our eyes to look dark and puffy in the morning. I read a meme that said “if you know who JTT is… its time to start wearing an eye cream.” Well, that time has come my friends.

Fight tired eyes with a good eye care system

If you follow me on Instagram, you know I’ve been on the hunt for a great eye cream that was anti-aging and helped with dark circles & prevented fine lines. I was so thrilled when Whole Story skin reached out to see if I would like to test and review some of their newest clean beauty products. I have been using their eye system for about 3 months now and love it. Since incorporating their eye system into my skin care routine, I have noticed my skin around my eyes is more moisturized, less crepey and dry and appears more firm. Besides the benefits of what I can visibly see, what really sold me was the high quality & clean ingredients they use in their products.

Eye Mask

First I start my day by using this eye mask in the morning to exfoliate dead skin cells around the eye area & reduce the appearance of dark circles. This helps to get rid of any flakey dry skin and gives me a nice smooth under-eye.

Renew Eye Gel

I then put on the Renew Eye Gel which is forumlated with Red Algae Extract & Hyaluronic Acid (yes please!) to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines and puffiness. Sometimes when I am in a rush, I will skip the eye mask & just use this gel around my eyes under my makeup.. I can definitely tell it helps to firm up my skin around the eye area and helps to make me look well rested.

Restore Eye Cream (overnight)

Before bed, I put on the Restore Eye Cream, This is hands down the most hydrating eye cream I have ever used and by far my favorite for night time. I let this product soak in all night and wake up reaping the benefits! It’s super rich and creamy and I feel like my skin drinks it up! Ya’ll… I’m telling you, the ingredients are what sold me on this specific skin care line. I love that it is jam packed with peptides, caffeine to reduce inflamation, green tea extract to reduce dark circles and they leave out all the bad stuff! You can check out their natural skin care line here. They also offered to give my readers discount for a limited time, if you use code “DOROTHYPRO” it will get you 20% off at checkout!

Hydate, Hydrate, Hydrate

Wake up in the morning and drink a big glass of water FIRST before drinking anything else. This will instantly give you a surge of hydration and be sure to keep drinking water throughout the day. We all know the benefits of drinking water, but in case you need a refresher, read why it’s so important for our skin and overall health here. Pregnant or nursing mamas, this is a crucial step you don’t want to miss! Try making it a focus this week!

Conceal the Rest

How to cover up dark circles -Tarte shape tape concealer

Sometimes no matter how much sleep we get or how good of an eye cream we use, genetics plays a big roll in the color of our under eyes (thanks Mom). I recommend finding a rockin’ awesome under eye concealer that will help cover up those dark circles. I swear by this concealer as it works so well to brighten your under eye, nourish the skin and conceal those stubborn dark circles. Gently dot the product under your eye in a triangle shape and then blend well. A little goes a long way making it last a while!

Up Your Brow Game

A good brow will lift the entire face. This is a great diversion tactic that can really help you look well rested. Make sure your brows are on their best behavior by grooming them with my favorite eye spooled brush and pencil duo!

Don’t skip the blush.

A fresh flush of color adds a youthful glow to your skin. Swipe your cheeks with my long time fave blush by Nars. I also recommend this gorgeous highlighter that’s “an instant pick-me-up” for a healthy, rested glow. It’s so inexpensive & I use it for eyeshadow as well.

There you have it, my top tips on how to look well rested even when you’re really not. And when these things don’t work… you may just need to go and take a nap. If you were looking for permission to take a rest, here it is! Hope these tips help you to invest in yourself a bit and start your day off on the right foot. Oh, and if all else fails and you still get the comment “You look tired,” just tell them “Well, now that you mention it, mind grabbing me a coffee please?” 😉
